Tisha Campbell Breaks Her Silence on Ex-Husband Duane Martin Five Years After Divorce
At 56, actress Tisha Campbell is finally opening up about her tumultuous split from ex-husband Duane Martin, five years after a divorce that shockingly left her with only $7 in her bank account.
The couple, who married in 1996 and spent nearly three decades together, have now closed the final chapter of their relationship after resolving a long-standing bankruptcy case.
The divorce, which Campbell filed for in 2018 and finalized two years later, was just one part of their financial saga.
Court documents revealed that the pair had $16 million in claims discharged and distributed $1.7 million to creditors after selling their home and liquidating various assets, including residuals and business holdings.
Their financial troubles began well before the divorce, with a 2016 Chapter 7 bankruptcy filing showing $15 million in debt, including unpaid loans, tax debts, and mismanaged business ventures.

Campbell claimed she trusted Martin to handle their finances but later learned he may have hidden assets and mishandled residual payments.
Legal documents alleged that Martin diverted $50,000 in residuals during bankruptcy proceedings. Campbell, who surrendered her acting residuals as part of the settlement, acted quickly through her lawyers once she discovered the discrepancies.
The financial drama even drew in celebrity friends Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith, who reportedly lent Martin $1.5 million to buy back their foreclosed home.
Campbell objected to the terms, believing Martin would profit from the deal, and the Smiths were compelled to provide financial records during legal proceedings.

Beyond the financial woes, Campbell also accused Martin of emotional, mental, and physical abuse throughout their marriage. In 2019, she filed for a restraining order, stating she had endured years of hidden abuse to protect her family and Martin’s public image.
Martin denied the allegations, and the divorce was finalized the following year. He has since moved on with a younger fiancée, while Campbell has focused on her health and family.
Despite facing sarcoidosis, a chronic lung disease, Campbell shared that her health has improved since the separation. She expressed relief and a sense of starting over, recalling how she was left with almost nothing after the split.
“No one knows that, but I had nothing. Nothing in the bank. Nothing. I had maybe $7 to my name and I was scared,” she told Entertainment Tonight.
Both Campbell and Martin had successful careers before their marriage. Campbell is beloved for her roles on “Martin” and “My Wife and Kids,” while Martin built a career in acting and real estate. Together they raised two sons, Zen and Ezekiel, and often appeared as a united front in public.

Their story, however, reveals the complexities behind the scenes. Financial strain, allegations of abuse, and public scrutiny ultimately took their toll.
Today, Campbell is an advocate for self-care and resilience, inspiring others facing difficult relationships. Martin has kept a lower profile, focusing on his personal and professional pursuits.
Their saga serves as a cautionary tale about fame, finances, and the importance of prioritizing mental health. As both move forward, their journey offers hope and strength to anyone navigating challenges in the public eye.
