Gospel music’s beloved power couple, Tamela Mann and her husband, actor and singer David Mann, have long been admired for their enduring marriage and blended family.
Currently, the couple is celebrating the success of their “Us Against the World” tour, which shares its name with their joint book and album.
In a candid new interview, the Fort Worth, Texas natives opened up about their 30-year journey together, revealing both their triumphs and the obstacles that nearly tore them apart.

David and Tamela’s book was inspired by their three decades of marriage—years filled with faith, love, and resilience. David explained that they had considered writing the book for several years, especially after their 25th anniversary, but only recently felt ready to share their story.
“We just thought it would be good to share our journey and how we made it, even in an industry that’s known for divorce,” David said. He pointed out that the divorce rate in the entertainment industry is much higher than the national average, and the couple wanted to offer hope and insight into how they managed to stay together.
“One of the ways is, she’s my priority and I’m her priority,” David emphasized.
The Manns’ family is a blended one, consisting of four children and a niece they have raised since Tamela’s sister passed away. However, their path to family unity was not without pain.
Two of their children were fathered by David outside of his relationship with Tamela. While Tamela was supportive and accepting of David’s first child, the revelation of a second child, which surfaced five years into their marriage, almost caused irreparable damage.

Tamela recalled the moment when David’s career was taking off with Kirk Franklin, and another woman came forward to reveal that David had a daughter with her. “I felt like I accepted one child; I can’t accept another child,” Tamela admitted. She described feeling isolated and alone during that period, fearing that she would lose herself in the midst of the drama.
“I felt like I was alone. I felt like she was leaving me,” Tamela shared. David acknowledged the difficulty, explaining, “She was like, ‘You got this baby mama to deal with and that baby mama to deal with, and where do I fit in? I’m going to get lost.’”
The couple reached a turning point when David reassured Tamela of his unwavering commitment to her. “I had to let her know it’s me and you against all of this stuff,” he said.
That promise became the foundation of their relationship moving forward. Tamela credits David’s devotion with restoring her confidence and sense of security. “Mr. Mann’s commitment to his wife just gave me confidence that he would take care of me,” Tamela said. “I didn’t have to worry about being in the middle. It was us, and then everybody else.”

Despite the challenges, Tamela and David Mann have emerged stronger than ever, serving as an inspiration to countless fans. Their story is a testament to the power of love, forgiveness, and putting each other first, even when faced with the most trying circumstances.
